Austin AI Search Statistics 2026

How Austin businesses show up (or don't) in ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Perplexity, and AI Overviews. Data from 200+ local business audits across 5 industries.

How We Collected This Data

Between January and March 2026, Signal Digital conducted AI visibility audits on 200+ local businesses across the Austin, Cedar Park, Round Rock, Georgetown, and Pflugerville metro area. We tested visibility across ChatGPT (GPT-4o), Google Gemini, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews using 50 industry-specific queries per business. Industries audited include med spas, dental practices, chiropractors, personal injury law firms, and home service companies (HVAC/plumbing).

The Numbers That Matter

44%

Austin Consumers Using AI Search Weekly

Nearly half of Austin-area consumers use ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity at least once per week to find local businesses and services. This is 37% higher than the national average of 32%.

<5%

Local Businesses with Schema Markup

Fewer than 5% of Austin local business websites have proper JSON-LD structured data. This is the #1 technical factor in whether AI tools can find, understand, and recommend a business.

12/100

Average AI Visibility Score

AI Visibility by Industry (Austin Market)

Average AI Visibility Score (out of 100) by industry — higher means AI tools recommend the business more frequently:

Industry Avg. Score (Unoptimized) Avg. Score (Optimized) Gap
Med Spas 14 72 +58 pts
Dental Practices 16 74 +58 pts
Chiropractors 9 61 +52 pts
Personal Injury Law 18 76 +58 pts
Home Services (HVAC/Plumbing) 8 59 +51 pts

Key insight: Personal injury law firms and dental practices tend to have slightly higher baseline scores due to more established online presences, but all industries show a massive improvement gap of 50+ points with proper GEO optimization.

AI Visibility by City (Central Texas)

City Businesses Audited Avg. AI Visibility Score % with Schema
Austin (Central) 68 15 7%
Cedar Park 31 11 3%
Round Rock 28 10 4%
Georgetown 22 8 0%
Pflugerville 19 9 0%
Lakeway 15 13 7%
Leander 17 7 0%

Key insight: Suburban cities like Georgetown, Pflugerville, and Leander have the lowest AI visibility — and zero schema adoption. These represent the biggest opportunity for businesses willing to move first.

What Optimized Businesses Do Differently

Businesses scoring 60+ on our AI Visibility Index share these characteristics:

  • 100% have JSON-LD structured data (LocalBusiness + FAQPage schema minimum)
  • 94% have 100+ Google reviews with a 4.5+ star average
  • 88% have consistent NAP data across 10+ directories
  • 82% publish answer-driven content at least monthly
  • 76% have service-specific pages with pricing and process details
  • 71% are listed on 3+ industry-specific authority platforms
  • 65% have earned at least one local media or news mention

The First-Mover Window

With fewer than 2% of Austin businesses actively optimizing for AI search, the competitive window is still wide open. Our data shows that businesses implementing LLMO strategies in Q1 2026 saw an average visibility score increase of 41 points within 90 days.

By comparison, businesses in markets where 10%+ of competitors have optimized (like San Francisco and New York) see only 22-point average gains in the same timeframe. Austin's low adoption rate is a temporary advantage.
